What does Bradford's retelling of the First Thanksgiving leave out?

  1. In bradford's retelling of the First Thanksgiving he left out about the issues that were going on between the English people and the Indians. Philip felt that the English weren't treating the Indians as nice the Indians treated them when they first landed foot on Plymouth. Philip was angry and decided to give up any weapons such as guns to the English. The English warned Philip that they should not create a war for the English are to powerful. Philip did not believe and decided to attack anyway. He was soon killed afterward. Bradford left out this information about the war between Indian tribes and the English.

  2. Bradford left out in his retelling of the First Thanksgiving the events that took place after the feast. The peace did not continue on to the next generation. There were quarrels between the English men and the Indians. Bradford did not account how the English people made the Indians feel inferior. Phillip, the head chief of the Indian tribe, decided to attack. In the end, however, the Indians did not succeed. Phillip was killed and his head remained on a stick in Plymouth to remind all the Indians who was in charge.

  3. In Bradford's retelling of the First Thanksgiving, he left out the issues that were occurring between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. Philip felt that the Pilgrims needed to treat the Native Americans the same way that the Native Americans had treated the Pilgrims when they had first arrived in Plymouth. The rising tensions eventually led to a war between the Native Americans and the Pilgrims, despite the warning of the Pilgrims to Philip to not venture into war with the Pilgrims as they would be to big of a force against the Native Americans. Bradford left out the information about the tension occurring after the joyous and plentiful First Thanksgiving.

  4. The information that Bradford left out in his retelling of the First Thanksgiving was about Massasoit's son, Philip. Bradford left out that Philip and the pilgrims stopped getting along after Massasoit and his trusted pilgrim friend, Edward Winslow, died. Philip felt that the pilgrims were not treating the Indians with the kindness that the Indians showed the pilgrims when they first arrived. Bradford also left out that Philip gave up his and his men's weapons, then later started a war with the pilgrims by attacking them at night. Then the pilgrims killed Philip, took his body apart, stuck his head on a stick and posted it at the town center to remind people who were the rulers there.

  5. In William Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation" he left out the conflicts between the the pilgrims and the Native Americans that already lived there. He failed to mention how the tension between the pilgrims and the natives grew and eventually lead to a war between the two. The chief of the Indians, Philip, felt that he was getting the respect he deserved from the pilgrims. This angered him and caused him to start the war. In the end, Philip was killed and his head was displayed in order to keep the Indians in line.

  6. Bradford tried to write the story as a 3rd person point of view which made readers to think his writing wasn't favored the English side and only wrote the facts that happened between them. He left out what things English had done to the Indians and focuses more on what Indians did to "them". He also left out what happened to Philip by the end such as how cruelly he was killed. In addition, he also didn't mention the point that Philip had no intention to fight in the beginning and followed English rule but they were the one who treated Indians badly which caused conflicts between them.

  7. Bradford left out the fact that the Native Americans and the Pilgrims were having problems with each other. He also left out points about Philip. He didn't get along with the pilgrims. He had the idea to fight, which he had done and this led him to be killed. At the end of the movie, it showed his head on the stick as a remembrance of who he was.

  8. The first thanksgiving was a celebration of the survival and prosperity of the New England colonies with help from the Native Americans. Yet Bradford does not mention the pilgrims in the First Thanksgiving. Throughout the whole passage he leaves out that the Native Americans helped the pilgrims settle and grow crops even though the pilgrims were weaker and dying. The Native Americans attended this feast, and they brought 4 deers and they bonded with the pilgrims for three days. In Bradford's writings, the Native Americans are only mentioned in one passage but in the movie that we watched today, it was said that the Native Americans and the Pilgrims held close relationships.

  9. In the movie we watched it told about the help from the Indians with crops and the settling of the Englishmen, bradford forgot to mention that. He also didn't talk about the conflicts between the indians and the Pilgrims. He only talks about how he thought the Indians were savages. He also forgot to mention what happens after the first thanksgiving. We were left to believe that the treaty between the Indians and the Englishmen lasted but in the movie we learned that it didn't last, that there was a lot of lives lost because of conflicts from both sides.

  10. In William Bradford's retelling of the First Thanksgiving, he tells us that it was very peaceful and they ate a lot of delicious food but he did not add in the important parts. He did not include the hard relationship between the Pilgrims and the Indians. The Indians and the Pilgrims got along very well in the beginning but things got worse. The Pilgrims wanted to let everyone that was living on the land know that they were the ones to be afraid of and let them know that they were in charge. William Bradford also forgot to mention the war that the Pilgrims and Indians were in which lead to Philip's story. The Pilgrims killed Philip and put his head on a stick and put it where everyone can see. Philip's head on the stick was proof that the Pilgrims had to show their power.

  11. There were quite a few things he left out when he told the story. A few things he left out was that the natives brought deer to the First Thanksgiving, information about Philip, converting the natives to Christians, the hatred between the two groups. The natives burned down the Pilgrims homes, in return they killed many natives, including Philip. After doing so, they stuck his head on a pike and placed it in the middle of the town for everyone to learn from and to show who's in power.

  12. The first thanksgiving was a celebratory feast that was about the English people being able to last on the Native Americans' land. He didn't mention about the conflicts between the English people and the Native Americans. There was also Philip, who was the chief that had his head stuck on the stick in the town of Plymouth to remind the Indians that the English people were in charge and superior to them. Also, it was only told what happened after the first thanksgiving in the movie.

  13. He left out the fact that the English were wary of the Natives and the conflict that they had after the thanksgiving. He told the story as if only the Natives were at fault, that the English were the victims. He didn't mention how they put Philips' head on a stick in the middle of town and didn't take it down for years, to remind the Natives that the English are superior and that their God is smiling down on them. He never mentioned anything from the Natives perspective.

  14. in Bradford's retelling of the first Thanksgiving left out a few things from the real story. One main thing he left out was that the next generation had a lot of hostility towards each other. The younger generations had to face many different conflicts. The Pilgrims were taking advantage of the Native Americans. They weren't treating the Native Americans equal to them. It got to a point where the Native Americans got so mad that they started a war. It did not end well and a lot of Indian tribes ended up being killed.

In Bradfords retelling of the first Thanksgiving, he left out how the Indians & the Pilgrims didn't get along after a short while. Philip felt as if the Pilgrims weren't treating the Indians fairly or didn't show the slightest bit of kindness towards them. The Indians welcomed the Pilgrims onto their land & treated them as equals, so they expected the same in return. Bradford also left out that Philip gave up all of their weapons to the Pilgrims and soon started a war with the Pilgrims at night by secretly attacking them. The pilgrims then decided to kill Philip, took his body apart, put his head on a stick and stuck it in the center of town to remind everyone who was then in charge.

  16. In Bradford's version of the First Thanksgiving, he did not include a lot of the problems that they were having at that time. He didn't show how the Indians and Pilgrims really acted with each other. There was a lot of hatred between the two groups. Since they had different views on things, no one group wanted to yield to the other. When i say that i mean that no group wanted to be less powerful then the other. They both wanted to be the greatest.

  17. Bradford forgot to mention the conflict between the Natives and the English. At the first Thanksgiving the Natives were so kind to bring the English five deers. They even taught the English about their culture and games. When more English came to the island they became more powerful and threatened the Natives to follow them otherwise they will kill them. The Natives were so insulted and reminded the English that when they came to the land the Natives were the powerful ones, but they welcomed the English, never threatened. The English didn't care about the past so the Natives refused to follow and started a war. Philip ended up dead and the Natives were imprisoned.

  18. He left out all the conflicts that the Native Americans and English men were having. He also sort of left out certain food that they all ate at the first Thanksgiving. He said how they were nice but ready to attack, but he didn't tell us how after they both got into the fight and they got into a huge war. Many people died at the hands of the English people. He also missed out that Phillip died if any did Native Americans did survive, they went back to the mainland where they would be sold into slavery.

  19. He didn't mention the Indians in the first thanksgiving. He also didn't mention how the English took Philip's head and put it on a stick. They did this to remind everybody that he was the leader of his people. Also, the rest of the Native Americans would be sold into slavery.

  20. After the First Thanksgiving, Bradford didn't really mention what happened between the Pilgrims and the Indians. On why they had shown hatred to one another.

  21. In Bradfords retelling of the first Thanksgiving, he didn't talk about how the involvement of the Native Americans. He didn't talk about the conflict the happened later between the English and the Native Americans. He didn't talk about how the Native Americans started the war, their down fall, and the death of Philip. He made it seem that the Thanksgiving they had was perfect and only between the English.

  22. I think that he left out the stuffing, Jam, the bread, and other food items. He also left out the praying part. He did not talk much about the Native Americans like why they turned on them and their disadvantages of the war or while it was going on. They also didnt mention what really happen after the war like did the Indians still get the meals for Thanksgiving. He did not mention why the English turned against the Indians and why they could not just get a long when the first attack happened.

  23. In William Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation" while retelling the celebration of thanksgiving he left our very crucial details involving Native Americans. He didn't mention how involved the Native Americans were during thanksgiving, that they brought a copious amount of food to the English. And that they stayed and celebrated the first successful harvest of the English and the peace, however short it was, between the two peoples. He then also left out the tension that amounted between the new generation of English settlers and Native Americans. The conflicts and how the war was started was not mentioned. And the altogether cruel treatment towards the Native Americans that helped them survive when they first settled there.

  24. In William Bradford's retelling of the First Thanksgiving, he leaves out the existence and relations the Pilgrims had with the Indians, especially on this special day. On this very significant day the Pilgrims celebrated the first harvest and just to thank God for watching over them, while settling in this new land, called the Americas. With the help of the current inhabitants, the Indians, the Pilgrims were able to settle and make a living from what the land provided them. The Indians were great help during this time of conversion into new and unfamiliar surroundings and living conditions. Leaving out the Indians in his retelling of the First Thanksgiving, Bradford does not recognize the Indians as people who helped with the Pilgrims' settlements. In other stories of the First Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims were open and welcoming towards the Indians who appeared in their land property on this significant event in history. If it was not for the Indians, the majority of the Pilgrim population would not have made it in the first few weeks adjusting and living where they settled. When Bradford does not mention the Indians in his retelling of the First Thanksgiving, it gives a feeling of betrayal and no acknowledgement of the Indians' vital help throughout the Pilgrims' months of settling in their lands.

  25. William Bradford's retelling of the FIrst Thanksgiving leaves out crucial information. Even though Bradford's writings are informational and includes a lot of details, he leaves out the existence of Native Americans in the FIrst Thanksgiving. He talks about all the joyful details of the first Thanksgiving, but does not even mention the people that helped the Pilgrims to succeed on new land.
Philip, while he is an important figure that should not be left out, is also not mentioned by Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation". While Bradford talks about two specific Native Americans, Philip does not come up in his writing. As a consequence, Bradford also leaves out the change of the relationship between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. Just seeing Bradford's retelling of the historical events would lead people to misunderstand what actually happened between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans.
